Nope, not good

Permalink 12/07/06 17:44, by Esa Viitala, Categories: Software

Still crashing, using plain xine didn't help much. Going to try xine with xv next . . .

I miss the days when VDR and htpc was up for ages, only power failures caused interruptions, other than that, nothing went wrong... that was in previous house, DVB-C FF card. I think uptime record was around 200 days or so.

Also EPIA mobo + Terratec Cinergy T2 = not good. EPIA motherboards do not cut the power to the USB devices ever (not even when the system is completely shut down). T2 does not seem to like this - sometimes it fails to tune even when there is nothing wrong with the signal (tested on Mac + EyeTV), every now and then I had to shut down the computer and take off usb cord to T2 so that it is powered down for sure. After starting the system again, everything was good.

So now, I have a button on touchscreen which shuts down htpc and cuts the power completely (X10) for a minute, puts power back on and htpc restarts (auto start after power failure) - makes it a bit easier. If anyone knows of a better ( USB ) dvb-t device or has any other nices solution to this please leave a comment.
